Turf Management

Turf Management

Crabgrass + fertilizer (late March)

All turf areas will be treated with a season long crabgrass pre-emergent herbicide. This product works extremely well especially in unison with our spot-spray program. Fertilizer (no more than ½ pound per 1,000 ft2) is part of the formulation and will aid in spring “green-up”.

Weed management

Turf areas will be treated twice a year (spring and fall) for broad leaved weeds. Timing will be based on environmental conditions. In addition, weeds will be spot sprayed during monthly visits as needed.

September fertilization

Our first application of fertilizer in the fall always coincides with aeration. We use this formulation (18-24-12) or ratio, 3-4-2 commonly referred to as starter fertilizer. When applied in conjunction with aeration the holes produced allow Phosphorus (immobile in the soil) to get into the soil profile where turf roots are present.

October fertilization

All areas will receive full rate (1 lb/1,000 ft2) of a high quality slow release fertilizer formulated to correct any nutrient deficiencies via the soil test.

November fertilization

All areas will receive full rate (1 lb/1,000 ft2) of a high quality slow release fertilizer.

December fertilizer

All areas will receive full rate (1 lb/1,000 ft2) of a high quality slow release fertilizer.

Lime (maintenance application)

A maintenance application of 15 pounds per 1,000 ft2 will also occur in conjunction with aeration for similar reasons given above. Additional liming requirements will be determined after analyzing soil tests results (completed at initial servicing) and costs associated with corrective applications approved before scheduling occurs (note: can’t exceed 50lbs/1,000 ft2 per any one application of lime).
